Kaane Raja Oonkh Dogey ?

Kaane Raja Oonkh Dogey ?

Oonkh is SugarCane in Sanskrit. The phrase is a Hindi proverb which means using derogatory words even while asking for a favour. An incident similar to this happened to me in the morning.
A young man rings the bell, and is probably handicapped with Polio.

Man: Sahi.
I(perplexed): What?

Man: Sahi! Shows a paper.
I: Oh, signature.

Man: Our society president **** Uncle has asked this document to be signed.

I was about to sign when he explains me about the some donation for his studies because, though, he is handicapped, he is a meritorious scholar(he showed me 86% marks somewhere on the paper).

Though I was slightly miffed because he told me about this at the last moment, but still decided to help him.

Suddenly, he dropped a bomb shell!

Man: Aap Kahan Se Ho, Uncle?
I(coldly): What is your correct age, Merey Laal?

Man(slightly taken aback): 25, Kyun ?
I: Even if you were 20, I wouldn't qualify as your uncle.

Man: I am Sorry...er...sir.
I: You better be. I am from Lucknow.

Now he drops another bomb shell.

Man: Punjab Se?
I(disgusted not for the first and last time): Jaaney Do Dost. Mujhey Office Bhi Jana Hai.

Still gave him 50 bucks, and closed the door.

I have found these two generic problem over here. Uncle and Aunty is the most abused word, and they have very twisted sense of Geography.

Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho ..

.. is a beautiful, haunting song is from the film Hanste Jakhm. No points for guessing that the movie was produced Chetan Anand as the leading lady was a deadpan Priya Rajvansha.

Coming back to the song. I reckon this is one of the most romantic song ever written. The lyricist is great Kaifi Azmi. The song is full of some very lovely similes and metaphors, yet very simple. For example, "Ek Bhatke Hue Rahi Ko, Karwan Mil Gaya", "Ek Sureela Nagma Ho", "Bheegi Raton Mein Masti, Tapte Dil Pe Saya Ho". Terrific work.

Mohammad Rafi did full justice to the lyrics and music. The way he has moved to high pitch, and then came down effortlessly to lower one is amazing. It is he who gives the haunting touch to the song. For example how well he switches from "Ek Bhatke Hue Rahi Ko" to "Karwaan Mil Gaya". Fantastic.

But the real magic is created by the music director, Madan Mohan, who else. The genius saw the opportunity to immortalize those lovely lyrics, and he did something very unconventional. He actually recorded the sound of sea waves live, and used them in the song. Not once it appears in the song that this is an outside studio work.

In all, the song took 22 hours in a stretch to record. Such an effort, that too in lesser films require tremendous self belief and motivation. Enjoy the lyrics.

Nazuk Si Ladki

There are songs and there are songs. I have listened and enjoyed many a songs but this one is special. It's mesmerizing. Penned, tuned and sung in such a manner that while listening, it involves your complete attention. You simply cannot do anything else.

Song is not that popular because it's from a forgettable film called Shankar Hussain with some even more forgettable actors. Rafi's voice is Godly, Khayyam's tunes are soothing, while lyrics by Kamal Amrohi(who was, incidentally Meena Kumari's husband and Pakeeza's director and dialogue writer) are simple and phenomenal. Enjoy them.

Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuki Si Ladki
Bahut Khoobsoorat, Mangar Sanwli Si, Bahut Khoobsoorat..
Mujhey Apne Khwabon Ki Bahon Mein Paaker, Kabhi Neend Mein Muskarati To Hogi
Usi Neend Mein Kas-masakas-kasa-ker, Sirahney Se Takiya Girati To Hogi
Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuki Si Ladki..

Wahi Khwaab Din Ki Mudheron Per Aaker, Usey Man-Hi-Man Mein Lubhate To Honge
Kayi Saaz Seeney Ki Khamoshion Mein, Meri Yaad Se Jhanjhanti To Hongey
Woh Besakhta Dheemey Dheemey Suron Mein, Meri Dhun Mein Kuchh Gungunati To Hogi
Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuki Si Ladki..

Chalo Khat Likhe Ji Mein Aata To Hoga, Magar Ungliyan Kap-kapati To Hongi
Kalam Haanth Se Chhooot Jata To Hoga, Umangey Kalam Fir Uthati To Hongi
Mera Naam Apni Kitabon Pey Likh Ker, Woh Daton Se Ungli Dabati To Hogi
Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuki Si Ladki..

Zuban Se Kabhi Uff Nikalti To Hogi, Badan Dheemey Dheemy Sulagta To Hoga
Kahin Ke Kahin Paanv Padtey To Hongey, Zamin Per Duppata Latakta To Hoga
Kabhi Subah Ko Shaam Kehti To Hogi, Kabhi Raat Ko Din Batati To Hogi

Kahin Ek Masoom Nazuki Si Ladki, Bahut Khoobsoorat, Mangar Sanwli Si.
